Sandra Lee
Sandra Eula Lee is a Korean-American artist born raised in New Jersey. Her work has been exhibited at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Rush Arts Gallery, and Franklin Parrasch Gallery, NY; Fondazione Mudima, Milan; and Aljira Center for Contemporary Art, NJ, among others. She is the recipient of an Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Studio Fellowship and is a 2009 recipient of a residency at Goyang, through the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea. She was recently awarded a fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council, NY.
Beginning with a material realism, Lee makes sculptural works that take the physical everyday and re-imagines it through the absurd and the uncanny. Using the materials and events from her day-to-day life, she culls wider meanings from familiar surroundings and finds tragic-comic humor in the commonplace.
