Willum Geerts

 

Willum Geerts aDutch artist who responds, since 1998, to the absurdity, complexity and chaos of the world around us, in a multi-disciplinary way. He has worked with audio and video, installation, performance, painting, music, design, film and conceptual art forms.

 

Within the context of his work, Geerts asks the viewer/participant to re-address the world they live in. He enlarges the banal by adding dramatic, theatrical elements to it, isolating it from its regular context or mixing it with apparent opposites.

 

Geerts exhibits and performs his art in The Netherlands and internationally on a regular base. He has been making several films for Dutch National Television, curated a performance festival in the Van Abbemuseum (LPF). Iin 2006 heparticipated in the Art Omi international Artist’s Residency. As a musician, amongst other musical projects, he has toured Europe and the U.S. (SXSW festival) and released albums with his politically engaged absurdist music collective Salonpunk Orchestra “Human Alert” (since 1991). As freelance actor and irritainer, he performs both inside and outside an art context, using improvisation as the backbone of his performance.
