Carolyn Salas

 

Carolyn Salas was born in Los Angeles and now lives and works in Brooklyn. She received her BFA from the College of Santa Fe and MFA from Hunter College in 2005. She has studied in Scotland at the Glasgow School of Art. Salas has participated in group shows at The Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe, The Tenth Annual Sculpture Project at the College of Santa Fe, The New York Horticultural Society, Spencer Brownstone Gallery in New York, Kravets & Wehby in New York, and has exhibited her works internationally. In 2007 Salas had a solo show at Priska Juschka Fine Art in New York. She was awarded fellowships from Mesa Technical School, Vermont Studio Center and at the Santa Fe Art Institute. Salas received the Rita Glasser Study Abroad Grant from Hunter College, the Chashama Studio Space Award and Chashama North Artist Residency. Her work has been commissioned by the Swiss Institute and Chashama. Salas is a featured artist in the book, "By Hand, The Use of Craft in Contemporary Art."

 

 

Adam Parker Smith

 

Adam Parker Smith Adam Parker Smith is a New York based sculptor who works collaboratively with Carolyn Salas. Together they construct illustrations of dreams and imagined scenarios by materializing small incidents of fiction out of textiles and paper. This year he will complete studio residencies at Bemis Studio in Omaha, the Art Alliance Rotating Studio Program in New York, and Blue Sky Program in Illinois. Smith received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and his Masters from Tyler School of Art. He has studied in Rome and Lancaster England. Adam has completed solo shows at Priska Juschka in New York, the Center for Contemporary Art in Delaware as well as solo shows in Philadelphia, Rome, Virginia, and Texas. Smith has participated in group shows at Columbia University, Newman Popiashvili gallery in New York, Arcadia University in Philadelphia, and MICA as well as shows in Santa Cruz, Rome, Delaware, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Francisco. Smiths work has been written about in the Village Voice, Fiber Arts and Art in America.
